LOCATION DATA

How GroundRove uses your device location.

This page summarizes the current Android app's location behavior. It does not replace Android permission prompts or any required in-app disclosure.

When GroundRove uses location

  • Map position: approximate or precise location can show your position on the map.
  • Saved field positions: precise location is used when you choose to save a Saved Location or Field Record from GPS.
  • Location-based research: precise coordinates can be used locally when you choose to research around your current position.
  • Track Recording: after you explicitly start recording, GroundRove uses a visible Android location foreground service so recording can continue while GroundRove is temporarily in the background. Android displays an ongoing notification until recording stops.

What GroundRove does not do

  • GroundRove does not request Android ACCESS_BACKGROUND_LOCATION.
  • GroundRove does not send GPS position, recorded tracks, Saved Locations, Field Records, trip coordinates, notes, or measurements to GroundRove-operated servers.
  • GroundRove does not use location for advertising or analytics in the current release.

Storage and control

Saved Locations, Field Records and track points are stored locally in GroundRove's private app storage. You can stop Track Recording at any time. You can deny location permission and continue using offline maps and non-GPS features.
